UNDERWATER COATINGS

Structures in a harsh Marine Environment, require specialised protective coatings applied by a specialist company.

The Problem:
Since the early 1980's, instances of extreme corrosion/deterioration have been identified:
Accelerated Low Water Corrosion (ALWC)
Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC)

ALWC is an acknowledged Problem - World Wide

Resulting In:
Greatly reduced life expectancy of structure, with corrosion averaging as much as 4mm. per annum.
Increased threat of land instability behind steel sheet piling.
Costly conventional remedial repairs.

Example of extreme corrosion Loss of integrity to sheet pile

TYPICAL APPLICATION:

Client: British Waterways
Location: Old ford Lock
Project: Stop Plank Groove re-instatement
Following years of boat collision damage to the lock wall, the stop plank channel had been demolished.
Utilising timber shuttering and a combination of an innovative steel fixing technique and specialised concrete additives, a tremmi-pipe concrete pour was made. A new channel was constructed with steel inserts as an integral part of the existing structure.

This photograph was taken 8 yrs. after installation. Despite extensive collision damage, the structural integrity of the repair remains un-affected.

LOCK GATE REPAIRS

COST REPAIRSCOST EFFECTIVE LOCK GATE SEAL REPAIRS

Working in conjunction with British Waterways, we have designed, fabricated and successfully installed a number of lock gate seals to provide a permanent repair to leaking and damaged lock gates.

BENEFITS INCLUDE:

  • Cost effective and permanent repairs
  • No need to de-water
  • Flexibility of seal compensates for ‘ill fitting’ and worn gates (subject to extent of wear or damage)
  • Seals are designed and fabricated to suit individual gates
  • Minimal disruption to canal traffic
  • Materials used are virtually unaffected by the elements and are highly resistant to impact damage

THE SEALS COMPRISE:

High grade PVC inserts
Stainless steel/steel backing plates
Neoprene sealing gaskets
